Serbian Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic said today that the new government will do everything for Serbia to become an EU membership candidate next year and to be included in the “White Schengen List” so that our citizens could travel to EU countries without problems.

Dinkic said in an interview with Blic daily that the new government has a historic role to bring Serbia to the EU’s threshold by the end of its mandate and stressed that Serbia must not miss this opportunity.
He explained that the government will revise a report on EU association progress every week so that we could compensate for what has been missed.
According to Dinkic, the pace of EU progress will considerably depend on politics, which is best evidenced by the examples of Romania and Bulgaria that joined the Union although they are no great economic giants.
He also stressed that we should complete negotiations this year and sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), noting that we need to request larger pre-accession funds but it is realistic that they will be used more when Serbia becomes a country candidate.
Dinkic announced that Serbia will try to carry out the idea of “plan plus”, the conversion of up to $1 billion debt to the Paris Club of creditors for investing in the completion of Corridor 10 in the south of Serbia with some other EU countries.
