Naumov said that this agreement with Russia opens the door for wide cooperation with Russia not only in the field of energy.
“We have relieved the NIS oil company of a debt burden amounting to almost $245 million, and thus practically gave the chance to NIS to take a stronger position in the talks with foreign strategic partners in the forthcoming negotiating period which will be dedicated to modernising and rehabilitating the refinery and retail trade network,” the Minister of Mining and Energy said.
He said that settling the Serbia, Russia debt is also a chance to revitalise the Djerdap hydroelectric plant.
“The reconstruction or revitalization of Djerdap has practically started. We have completed the project documentation in agreement with our Russian partners, independently from these formal signatures. A great part of the equipment is being made in Russia’s factories,” Naumov said.
He said that the natural gas is an “energy source of the 21st century,” adding that gas network in Serbia to the south of the Sava and the Danube is not well developed. Therefore, Russian companies and Gazprom as the gas producer are very interested to get involved in this business.
The Minister of Mining and Energy expressed hope that all main gas pipe lines from Nis to Dimitrovgrad and from Nis to Pristina, as well as other ones, will cause great interest not only of Russian companies, but other world companies as well.
