Serbian Minister of Education and Sport Slobodan Vuksanovic said today that agreement was reached that in the upcoming year tuition fees for university education should not be increased by more than 7%, which is the expected inflation rate.
Following a meeting with rectors of all universities in Serbia, Vuksanovic told the press that this is also recommended to faculties which can decide otherwise.
Rector of the Novi Sad University Radmila Marinkovic-Neducin said that it has been agreed that self-financing students in the first year will be allowed to continue studies as students whose education is financed through the state budget if they have managed to obtain 40 points according to the new programme, or have passed two thirds of their examinations according to the old programme.
Rector of the Belgrade University Branko Kovacevic said that the amount of tuition fees for all faculties will be known by April 30.
He recalled that tuition fees for students who finance their own studies are on average15% lower than the fees for students whose studies are financed by the state.
