The 24th Nusic Days theatre festival began in Smederevo last night, with a wreath laying ceremony held at the monument to the greatest Serbian humourous writer Branislav Nusic. The festival is being organised under the auspices of the Serbian Ministry of Culture and the municipality of Smederevo and will last until April 29.
An evening dedicated to artistic performances was held within the framework of the cycle “Nusic Laureates” at which winner of the Branislav Nusic Life Achievement Award for 2001 Petar Kralj who recited poetry by Serbian poets and presented extracts from his performances.
This year this prestigious award went to drama actress from Novi Sad Gordana Djurdjevic-Dimic and will be presented to her on the final day of the festival.
During the pre-festival part of the event Nusic Days, audiences will be able to see four performances by amateur theatres from Mladenovac, Indjia and Kovin and the newest edition of the collected works of Branislav Nusic will be shown by video projection.
The festival part of the event Nusic Days will be opened on April 23 by last year’s Branislav Nusic Life Achievement Award winner actress Jelisaveta Seka Sablic.
Those performing during the festival will include Zvezdara Theatre from Belgrade, Slavija theatre from Belgrade, National Theatre from Leskovac, National Theatre from Pirot, National Theatre from Belgrade and Serbian National Theatre from Novi Sad.
