Government invests over €1 mln every year in Chilander Monastery

Serbian Minister of Culture Dragan Kojadinovic said that the Serbian government sets aside €1 million every year in restoration of the Chilandar Monastery on the Holy Mountain, which was heavily damaged in the 2004 fire.
He explained that this government during its mandate set aside a total of €4 million for Chilandar.
He expressed hope that a next government will conitnue this practice and added that regulations must be respected so as to avoid any future tragedies.
According to estimates, the whole renovation of the monastery will cost €25 million, €15 million of which for reconstruction of burned facilities, whereas the rest would be invested in infrastructure.
In the 2004 fire, out of 10,500 square metres of the 12th century monastery, 5,671 were destroyed.
