Vuksanovic told a press conference that according to the
Decree on national recognitions and awards for special contribution to the development and affirmation of sports, national recognition in the form of monetary rewards as monthly pensions, will be given to 427 persons, of which 359 are sports persons and 68 coaches who won medals in Olympic games, chess championships, world and European championships, or those who have set world records in Olympic games.
He said that by adopting this solution for awarding national recognition and awards for special contribution to the development of sports the state has paid its debt to the best sports persons for achieving success and has met their longstanding demands, while this is only one parameter which shows the government’s support to sports.
The Minister recalled that in 2005 a sum of RSD 1.3 billion was invested in sport, while this investment was doubled in 2006, worth RSD 2 billion.
According to Vuksanovic, if funds from the National Investment Plan which were invested or are being invested in sports infrastructure are also counted, it becomes clear that major progress has been made, which shows the commitment of state institutions to the cause of developing national sports.
Head of the Serbian Sports Directorate Aleksandar Sostar said that the distribution of monetary rewards to deserving sports persons, who have submitted valid documentation thus far, is a major achievement and proves the state’s commitment to developing sports.
Sostar said that it is never late to support real values, and added that now it is clear to all sports persons that the state will take care of their needs if they achieve top results.
