Speaking at a press conference which started with a minute’s silence to honour
miner Mile Pavlovic who died in an accident, Naumov said that the project will include the field of geology, exploitation and processing of metallic mineral raw materials, management of mining technologies and companies, as well as environmental protection and information systems.
He recalled that in December last year, the governments of Serbia and Japan signed an agreement on hiring Japanese mining and other experts who will make a plan of promotion of Serbian metal mines and their potentials.
The preparation of the plan should last 15 months. The complete presentation of potentials of Serbian mines and possibilities for investing in them will be held in big world centres - London, Toronto and Tokyo.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), through which the Japanese government implements its assistance to Serbia, hired the Mindeco company to work out the plan in association with the Ministry of Energy and Mining and the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection.
Charge d' Affaires of the Japanese Embassy to Belgrade Teruhiko Shinada said that the Japanese government finances this project so that the problems and obstacles to the development of Serbian mining could be viewed and the plan for its development and promotion made.
Sinada said that Serbia has remarkable potentials in terms of raw materials, personnel and institutional capacities in the field of mining which are not used sufficiently and that is why JICA opened a regional centre in Belgrade.
Deputy head of mission of JICA Satoshi Murakami said that this project, that aims to develop private sector and environmental protection in Serbia, will be the first all-encompassing form of cooperation between the two countries in the field of mining, which has so far been conducted through training of Serbian experts in Japan.
General Manager of Mindeco company Yuji Nishikawa explained that the project will include two phases. The first phase will last seven months and will include analysis of the situation in Serbian mines, while the second phase will be the preparation of a master plan and promotion of investments at international seminars in Toronto, London and Tokyo.
