New head of Internal Control Police Sector appointed

Newly appointed head of the Internal Control Police Sector at the Serbian Ministry of Interior Ljubinko Nikolic said today that he will perform his duties in accordance with the law.

Nikolic told a press conference that during his 23 years of work in police he fought against all kinds of crime and corruption, and stressed that he will conduct the Sector in a completely depoliticized manner, and the activities of the Sector will be transparent to the public.
Nikolic presented a brief outline of his biography, and said that after he finished studies at the Faculty of Economics he joined the Ministry of Interior, where among others he also performed the duty of head of the Criminal Police Administration. He added that he was never a member of any political party.
The new Head of the Internal Control Police Sector, who is according to the Law on police also Assistant Minister of Interior, expressed his expectation that handing over of office between his predecessor former head of the Sector Vladimir Bozovic and himself will take place on Monday.
State Secretary at the Ministry of Interior Mirjana Orasanin recalled that in accordance with the Law on police, the function of inspector general was cancelled and for the first time the office of the head of the Internal Control Police Sector has been introduced, and that Ljubinko Nikolic was selected at a competition for the job as the best candidate.
Orasanin stressed that international institutions such as the OSCE and the Council of Europe positively assessed these legal changes, adding that the competition was held on November 10, 2006.
