Vukotic told a press conference that on the occasion of the celebration of St Sava, the patron saint of schools, “Novosti” in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Sport will present 150,000 books, worth €500,000, to schools in Serbia.
He said that 1,218 elementary and 478 secondary schools will receive an average of 80 books each written by foreign and domestic authors, from the Millennium edition of classic literature, printed by “Novosti”.
Vuksanovic expressed gratitude to “Novosti” on behalf of all schools and libraries in Serbia, for this unprecedented gift to Serbian schools, calling it a historic action.
He explained that the Ministry will distribute books to schools in Serbia equally, according to age groups, with special attention to poorer parts of the country.
This action marks the beginning of the St Sava Celebration, which will be observed this year through various events and will last several days, said the Minister, and pointed to the fact that the gift from “Novosti” will enrich school libraries.
Vuksanovic said that within the framework of the St Sava Celebration a St Sava Academy will be held in the Sava Centre on January 27.
