At a press conference following the government session, Lalovic said that this protection implies financial compensation for the period of three years and guarantees that the workers' contributions and health insurance will be paid until they obtain the right to a pension, that is up to the period of two years.
According to the data of the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund, there are approximately 180,000 elderly workers in Serbia whom the new legal solutions will help by solving their social status, stressed Lalovic.
At the same time, he added that amendments to the Law on employment include the economic aspect of the problem, since it will create room for employing a younger workforce in the industrial sector.
Lalovic said that such legal solutions help to achieve two things: on one hand, it takes care of the eldest workers who might not find new jobs if declared surplus, and on the other hand, it resolves the issue of getting younger workforce in the Serbian industry sector.
Lalovic said that the Strategy of development and protection of mental health was also adopted at today's session. It is a years-long project as part of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, whose aim is to improve the organisation of protection of mental health and enable re-socialisation of patients.
As envisaged by this strategy, a bill on protection of patients with mental diseases has been drafted.
Lalovic said that the government and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Care have already taken measures and through coordinated activities secured the purchase or acquisition of 130 housing units in Serbia, houses or apartments in which people with less severe forms of mental illness will be placed and given professional help.

Minister of Economy Predrag Bubalo said that the government adopted at its session today a number of decrees, including a decree on national recognitions and awards for special contribution to the development and affirmation of sports.
According to this decree, apart from Olympic champions, winners of medals at the world and European competitions in Olympic sports will also be given national recognitions and awards.
A national sport recognition can be given to an athlete and a coach only once.
