Head of the Directorate Miroslav Vujovic said at a press conference at the Serbian government that the falsified certificates are used in international trade and they serve as state guarantees for good quality of products.
Vujovic said that in early November last year, a shipment of apples that were to be exported by Dobravac company from Sabac to Slovenia was returned because the level of pesticides in them was too high.
Following thorough research, the Directorate discovered that the finding of the high level of pesticides did not refer to the apples, but to an earlier shipment and that the company from Sabac used falsified certificates, which contained a false state seal.
Vujovic said that so far it has been established that there are 11 falsified certificates in that firm, obtained from a person in Macva. He said that the Serbian police suspect that there have been more abuses.
He said that the Directorate will press charges against the responsible person in the Dobravac company, the shipper who performs customs tasks and the forger in Macva.
The Directorate will continue to carry out inspections in order to prevent new abuses in the field of plant protection.
