Serbian Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Policy Slobodan Lalovic said today that some 40 percent of employees in 74 state enterprises will lose their jobs after restructuring.

Commenting on public criticism that followed a recent release of surplus labour figures, Lalovic told a press conference that there are two ways to deal with this problem – to face it or to resort to demagogy.
He recalled that the figures were very accurate and that they covered large enterprises such as carmaker Zastava, electronic company EI Nis, and the Bor mining complex. He added that these companies should keep no more than one third of their workforce in order to become more competitive and capable of making profit.
