At a press conference at which the strategy was presented Simic said that this also includes the improvement of the quality, efficiency and availability of health care services, as well as the search for new approaches for achieving better health of the young population at local levels.
She recalled that the health ministry formed an expert group for youth health to find and deal with the causes and undesirable consequences of unfavourable circumstances in which the young grow up.
Simic added that at the session held on December 9, the government adopted the document which is based on principles and values emphasised in international documents for the advancement of youth health.
She stressed that the latest research shows that the health of young people in Serbia is increasingly impaired due to the consummation of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, as well as a high level of injuries such as the ones caused by neglect and harassment.
Simic also explained that the Ministry is therefore primarily focused on prevention, development of partner relations and strengthening of legal regulations.
President of the Council for the Rights of the Child Tomica Milosavljevic pointed out that health is people's physical, psychical and social asset towards which every individual and every community strive, adding that not a single economic, historical or national project may be implemented if people's health is not prioritised.
Milosavljevic recalled that the Council was founded as a body which will bring together the governmental and non-governmental sectors and send a clear message to citizens informing them that the government is aware of its responsibility in defining the rights of the child since this is the essential mission of every society.
He pointed out that in the course of the four years of its existence, the Council cooperated with UNICEF and managed to achieve one of its goals – the definition of the National Action Plan for Children. He also added that if there are no timely activities among the young, then all plans regarding economic development are in vain since there will be no one who could put these plans into practice.
