She recalled that the project is being realised with the help of a loan by the European Investment Bank (EAR) worth €50 million, but also thanks to funds allocated by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR), the World Bank and Serbian government’s National Investment Plan.
Karanovic said that hospitals in Uzice, Leskovac, Sremska Mitrovica, Cacak, Pancevo, Subotica, Krusevac, Sombor, Zajecar and Smederevo will be included this project.
A complete reconstruction has been completed in six hospitals so far, Karanovic noted and added that the government and EIB will sign a €200 million loan agreement for reconstruction of clinical centres in Serbia, adding that realisation of this project should be completed by 2009.
She expressed expectation that complete works on reconstruction of all health institutions in Serbia and procurement of all necessary equipment will be finished by 2011 or 2012.
Head of the unit for implementation of the project Ljubisa Perisic explained that the aim of this project is to upgrade the quality of health services as well as availability to patients.
Head of EAR Mission to Serbia Daniel Giuglaris said that excellent results have been achieved in implementation of this project, and noted that Serbia is nearing EU standards in the sector of health services.
