Speaking at the first press conference held since he was
appointed coordinator of the Ministry of Health, Lalovic explained that a total of €300 million has been earmarked for the health system in the National Investment Plan, of which €161 million will be set aside directly from the budget, while the remaining funds will be approved in the form of loans.
He specified that out of these funds, €30 million is intended for the purchase of equipment, €150 million for reconstruction of four clinical centres in Belgrade, Nis, Kragujevac and Novi Sad, €47 million for reconstruction of hospitals, €60 million for reconstruction of 157 community health centres in Serbia and €13 million for construction of new hospitals.
Lalovic said that in the upcoming period, special attention will be paid to improvement of working conditions of health workers and the reform of the health insurance fund. He also voiced hope that two important strategies will have been adopted by New Year - on mental health in Serbia and tobacco control.
According to him, on November 24 talks will be continued with representative health trade unions on the conclusion of protocol on salaries in the health sector for 2007 and on the special collective agreement.
