Strengthening links between scientific, medical communities, international partners

Belgrade/London, 2 October 2026

Prime Minister in a caretaker capacity Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, today visited The Discovery Centre, AstraZeneca’s research and development headquarters in Cambridge, one of Europe’s most significant biomedical research hubs, where new therapies are developed and state-of-the-art medical technologies are applied.

AstraZeneca Vice President and Global Franchise Head for Bispecific Therapies in Immuno-Oncology Simon Hollingsworth presented the centre’s work and the latest breakthroughs in biomedical research.

The Prime Minister was also briefed on how the company integrates scientific research, medicine, artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to accelerate the development of new drugs and therapies, as well as their application in patient care.

Macut emphasised that the future of medicine is being shaped where doctors, scientists, universities and the industry work together.

Serbia possesses the expertise and talent who can be part of this process, and we aim to open up even more opportunities for collaboration with leading global research centres, the Prime Minister stated.

He noted that the goal is to forge even stronger ties between the domestic scientific and medical community and international partners.

Our ambition is for Serbia to be not only a country where modern therapies are administered but also a place where innovations that transform medicine are researched, developed and created, Macut concluded.
