Strong business ties basis for further bolstering Serbia-Slovenia cooperation

Belgrade, 4 September 2026

Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Labour and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia Anže Logar to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of labour, employment and economic relations.

During the meeting, particular emphasis was placed on the strong economic ties between Serbia and Slovenia and their importance for the labour market and employment.

Logar pointed out that the initiative of Slovenian business leaders played an important role in Slovenia’s decision to confirm its participation in Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade.

Serbia is one of the most important destinations for Slovenian capital. According to data from the Bank of Slovenia, at the end of 2024 it was the second-largest destination for Slovenian outward direct investment, with approximately €2.04 billion in investments, accounting for 19.3% of Slovenia’s total outward direct investment.

More than 1,200 companies with majority Slovenian ownership operate in Serbia, employing around 25,000 people.

The meeting concluded that these figures demonstrate not only the high level of economic interconnectedness between the two countries, but also the direct importance of Slovenian investment for employment in Serbia.

Slovenia is also one of Serbia’s partners in a twinning project implemented together with Sweden, France and Greece, aimed at improving working conditions and preparing Serbia for participation in the European Employment Services (EURES) network.

It was concluded that the high level of business ties between Serbia and Slovenia provides a solid foundation for further strengthening institutional cooperation and implementing initiatives of mutual interest.
