Further strengthening of cooperation with Ghana

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who is in Belgrade as a member of the delegation led by President John Dramani Mahama, on the occasion of a high-level commemorative meeting dedicated to marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The interlocutors reflected on the values on which the Movement is founded, and Đurić emphasised that Serbia still cherishes the principles of sovereignty, equality of states, mutual respect and independence in conducting its foreign policy.

The interlocutors agreed that the traditionally friendly relations between Serbia and Ghana represent a strong basis for further strengthening the presence and better positioning of Serbia on the African continent, as well as for deepening cooperation with African partners on the basis of mutual respect and mutual interest.

Đurić emphasised that a good level of political relations should be accompanied by stronger economic cooperation and greater integration of the economies of the two countries.

During the talks, it was also noted that there is room for further strengthening the contractual and legal basis of cooperation between Serbia and Ghana, which would create additional institutional prerequisites for the development of relations in areas of common interest.

The head of Serbian diplomacy once again thanked Ghana for its support for preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, emphasising that the issue of Kosovo and Metohija remains one of the most important national and state issues for Serbia.
