Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić, together with the heads of delegations of the countries participating in a high-level commemorative meeting dedicated to marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), symbolically planted a tree in the Friendship Park in Ušće today.

Addressing the gathering, Đurić expressed his special pleasure to be in the Friendship Park today, in a place that has been preserving the memory of one of the most important moments in the history of Belgrade and the Non-Aligned Movement for more than six decades.
According to him, since 1961, numerous leaders and friends of our country have left their mark here, planting trees as a simple but lasting symbol of friendship.
Many of these trees have survived decades, different times and numerous changes in the world, and they still stand here today, reminding us that everything we all want to remain permanent, and everything we invest joint efforts in, will indeed survive, the Minister emphasised.
Our friendships are lasting because they are based on the recognition and consistent application of the values and ideas that the Non-Aligned Movement has adopted as its guidelines and principles, which is the idea that relations between states should be based on respect, equality, independence and the right of every people to independently decide on their own future, Đurić said.
In the spirit of tradition and as a memento of this year's conference, Đurić signed the guest book of the Friendship Park, and then he was followed by other heads of delegations.
The park was founded in 1961 on the occasion of the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement. During the Movement's jubilee anniversaries, a tree is traditionally planted there as a symbol of the struggle for peace, equality, and cooperation.
