Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić discussed today with the Minister of Defence and Internal Order of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Brigadier General Horácio Castro da Trindade de Sousa the possibilities of developing cooperation in the field of defence and improving overall relations between the two countries.

The two officials assessed that bilateral relations are traditionally good and based on the cooperation that existed within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Gašić emphasised that Serbia pursues a balanced defence policy, and that it will continue to work on improving and further qualitatively developing relations in the field of defence with all states and international organisations, in accordance with national interests and foreign policy priorities.
The Minister conveyed his gratitude to São Tomé and Príncipe for withdrawing its recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, as well as for its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country.
He underlined that Serbia will continue to advocate the preservation and respect of international law, peace and stability, as well as the development of relations with other states on the basis of sovereign equality, peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for diversity.
De Sousa, who is on an official visit to Serbia, confirmed that the exchange of experiences and the improvement of cooperation in the field of defence would contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
