Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women Tatjana Macura is on a visit to the Republic of Palau, as a representative of the Serbian government, where she is attending the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting, which is being held from 30 August to 4 September.

Women as important decision-makers in fight against climate change

On the first day of the visit, the Minister met with the President of the Republic of Palau, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, the Deputy Prime Minister of Samoa, the Minister of Justice of Palau, the World Bank Group Division Director for the North and South Pacific, representatives of the Bezos Family Foundation, as well as the Forum’s Secretary-General.
On this occasion, Macura underlined that the meetings of this kind are a valuable opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences, as well as to actively promote the upcoming international specialised EXPO 2027, hosted by Belgrade.
The United Nations pays great attention to the consequences of climate change. In this regard, women, especially those living in poverty, rural areas or in areas affected by natural disasters, often have fewer resources and opportunities to protect themselves and recover from the consequences of climate change, she pointed out.
However, women should not be seen as victims of climate change only, but also as decision-makers, the Minister emphasised, adding that therefore policymaking must include women - from local communities and agriculture to energy, the economy and international politics.
