At the ceremony, Vučić said that the opening of the Danube Corridor fulfilled a long-held dream for eastern Serbia and that this vital artery brings Požarevac, Veliko Gradište and Golubac closer to the rest of the country, as well as the entire Europe.
The President stated that the project is of crucial importance to advancing Serbia’s national interests, providing a strong incentive to domestic tourism and raising the economic standards of the entire eastern Serbia.
He said that the project has a direct impact on the quality of life and economic development, recalling that 212 kilometres of motorways have opened to traffic in Serbia since November 2024.
The Danube Corridor, with a total length of 68 kilometres, runs from the Požarevac interchange at the Belgrade-Niš motorway via Požarevac (bypass) and Veliko Gradište to Golubac.
A total of 28 kilometres across Sections 2 and 3 opened today, with another six kilometres left to be built, alongside the 34 kilometres that had already opened earlier.
The construction of the Danube Corridor will cut travel times between Belgrade and Golubac to one hour and 20 minutes.
The commercial contract for the design and execution of works on the Danube Corridor was signed on 28 August 2021 by the Government of Serbia as the financier, Koridori Srbije d.o.o. as the investor and China Shandong International Economic and Technical Cooperation Group, Ltd. of Shandong Hi-Speed Group Co. as the contractor.
