Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, held a meeting today with representatives of the relevant ministries and authorities to discuss the issues arising from the limited period of stay for Serbian professional drivers in the Schengen area.

Activities to resolve professional drivers’ problems in Schengen area

Macut noted that numerous activities have been undertaken over the previous period to resolve these problems, ranging from communication with the drivers themselves and their associations to cooperation with the relevant European Union institutions and individual EU member states.
According to him, the state will continue the dialogue and diplomatic efforts to find a sustainable solution that will enable domestic transport operators to work without disruptions, preserve their competitiveness and ensure the efficient transport of goods to the EU market.
The Prime Minister said that the state understands the challenges faced by transport operators, but that the border blockades they have announced for the coming period are unacceptable.
Macut stressed that this issue affects not only the transport sector but the economy as a whole, given its importance for foreign trade, the stability of supply chains and the smooth flow of goods.
