In a working breakfast with journalists at the hotel In organised by the Serbian Tourist Organisation, Dimitrijevic said that €8.2 million will be invested in the Danube’s potentials, €20.5 million in infrastructure projects, €16.2 million in promoting competitiveness of the Serbian economy, while €3.5 million will be earmarked for marketing.
According to Dimitrijevic, €18 million will be spent this year and €32 million next year.
Director of the Serbian Tourist Organisation Miodrag Popovic expressed hope that a brighter future awaits Serbian tourism and noted that foreign currency inflow from tourism in the January-August 2006 period was $258.7 million, or 34% more than in the same period last year.
Assistant Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services Radivoje Pirgic stressed the importance of the Danube River in the light of Serbia’s European integration. He announced nine projects related to the Danube, including an ethno-park Glozan, reconstruction of the Dundjerski castle, building a port in Apatin, preservation of Srebrno Jezero lake and reconstruction of the Lepenski Vir site.
