Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić saw off today, at the Helicopter Unit Base of the Ministry of the Interior, a helicopter and a fire and rescue team from the Emergency Situations Sector, which were sent to Spain to help extinguish major wildfires that have led to a national state of emergency in the country since 24 July.

The Super Puma H215 helicopter with five crew members and one liaison officer, as well as a fire and rescue team comprising 37 firefighters and three members of the medical support team, will be deployed in the area of the city of Navalcarnero, near the Spanish capital, as part of the international assistance sent by Serbia to Spain through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
Dačić emphasised that Spain, together with France, is facing one of the most severe wildfire seasons in recent decades, which is why the two countries have requested international assistance.
The Serbian team of firefighters consists of people from Belgrade, Niš, Kraljevo, Šabac, Čačak, Valjevo, Pančevo and Smederevo, with a total of 16 vehicles, one ATV and two trailers, the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
He also pointed out that Spain, a friendly country with which Serbia has excellent relations, has not recognised the independence of “Kosovo”.
Recalling that there were 39,757 interventions last year, the highest number recorded by the Sector in the last 20 years, and that 1,492 people were saved, he once again praised the readiness and selflessness of the firefighters-rescuers.
