Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, continued his regular meetings with representatives of the academic community today by holding talks with the deans of the faculties of social sciences and humanities and biotechnical sciences on current issues in the field of higher education and conditions of study and work.

Macut emphasised that it is necessary to continue the processes of modernisation of higher education and the development of educational policies that will follow technological, scientific and social changes, while maintaining high academic standards.
The interlocutors discussed the possibilities of further adapting study programmes to the modern needs of the labour market, with particular attention to the development of study programmes that enable students to acquire practical knowledge and give them greater employment opportunities upon graduation.
Special attention was paid to strengthening cooperation between the academic community, industry and institutions, in order to further encourage the employment of young professionals and their stay in the country through modern and competitive study programmes.
The interlocutors agreed that it is important that this cooperation be continued in the coming period, with the aim of further strengthening the quality of higher education and harmonising the academic system with the needs of society and the economy.
