Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, said today, at a ceremony marking Africa Day, that Serbia is proud of the tradition of friendship with the peoples of Africa and is determined to continue developing modern relations with the countries of the African continent on these foundations, based on respect and equality.

Macut emphasised that relations between Serbia and African countries are long-lasting and sincere, and that even the period of Serbia’s reduced presence on the African continent did not diminish the closeness and mutual trust.
The Prime Minister pointed out the importance of cooperation in the field of education, recalling the long-standing tradition of students from African countries studying in Serbia, as well as the importance of the “World in Serbia” programme, which contributes to connecting young people and strengthening friendly relations between nations.
The Prime Minister said that Serbia is committed to further improving cooperation with African partners through specific projects and initiatives of mutual importance, with the aim of contributing to a better life for citizens.
He emphasised that Serbia will continue to advocate internationally for respect for international law, the sovereignty of states and appreciation of diversity, noting that African countries have a sincere friend and reliable partner in Serbia.
Macut reiterated that relations between Serbia and African countries are lasting and sincere, and said that our country, although geographically distant, perceives African peoples as close friends, and that traditional Serbian-African friendship represents a strong foundation for further strengthening cooperation.
