Importance of international cooperation in field of sports, fight against doping

Belgrade, 7 May 2026

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, spoke today with President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Witold Bańka about improving cooperation in the field of the fight against doping in sports and other areas, as well as further strengthening Serbia’s institutional capacities in this area.

Macut stressed that Serbia is firmly committed to preserving the integrity of sports, protecting the health of athletes, implementing the highest international standards in the fight against doping and harmonising domestic legislation with the World Anti-Doping Code and international standards in this area.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the state continuously invests in the development of the sports system and supporting institutions that contribute to fair and equal conditions for all athletes.

The Prime Minister said that Serbia recognises the importance of international cooperation in the field of sports and the fight against doping, as one of the key prerequisites for maintaining public trust in sports competitions.

The interlocutors assessed that Serbia’s previous cooperation with the World Anti-Doping Agency had been successful, with mutual interest in its further improvement through the exchange of experiences, education and the application of modern control mechanisms.
