Around 78 percent of citizens would vote “yes” in a referendum on Serbia-Montenegro’s integration into European institutions, according to opinion polls carried out in April. Seven percent of respondents would vote against the state union’s membership in the European Union, nine percent would not vote, while six percent were undecided, the polls showed.

According to the Serbian government’s EU integration office, opinion polls also showed a declining number of citizens opposing Serbia-Montenegro’s accession to the EU.
The office’s Srdjan Majstorovic said that 66 percent of respondents believe that Serbia-Montenegro’s accession to the EU would be “a good thing,” 27 percent said it would be “neither good nor bad” for the state union, while seven percent described EU accession as “a bad thing.”
A total of 82.1 percent of the polled said that the EU would be stronger with more members, 81.5 percent believe that Serbia-Montenegro belongs in the EU, while 76.6 percent said that an enlarged EU would ensure greater peace and security in Europe. According to 75.1 percent of respondents, the state union’s accession into the EU would help Serbia-Montenegro develop the economy, while 72.9 percent believe that EU membership would help increase their living standards.
The opinion polls also found that 82 percent of citizens believe that reforms are vital for economic growth, while 81 percent said that any new government would have the obligation to resume reforms.
