Importance of enhancing cooperation, dialogue with national minority councils

Belgrade, 23 March 2026

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated today that national councils promote the activities of all national minorities in the best way and provide opportunities for educational and cultural activities of members of national minorities living in Serbia.

Macut expressed hope that good, fruitful and very constructive cooperation with all national minorities will continue, emphasising that today’s session is a way to improve cooperation and dialogue with national councils.

I think this is a good way to harmonise common needs, plans and generally improve the position of national minorities through their councils, which is of interest to Serbia, the Prime Minister concluded.

Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Demo Beriša said that the line ministry will continue to further strengthen the rights and position of members of national minorities through continuous dialogue and cooperation with national councils.

Today is an extremely important day for us who deal with issues of national minorities in Serbia and by doing so, we actually show how much we care about minorities, the Minister emphasised.

According to him, minorities form a bridge between the country of origin and the host country and together participate in building democracy and the state itself in which they live.
