Merola said that Italy already has this type of institution that works on conservation of pieces of art and added that logistic, financial and scientific support is necessary for setting up this institute in Serbia.
Assistant Minister of Culture in charge of protection of cultural heritage Miladin Lukic said that the initiative of the Ministry for setting up this institution was supported by the Ministry of Education and Sport and the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection.
Lukic stated that Italian Cooperation, the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and the Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), UNESCO and NGO sector strongly support this idea.
According to Lukic, the aim of the new centre will be to improve protection of cultural heritage by establishing a strategically regulated, organised, long-term, efficient, timely and quality cultural legacy.
