Pirgic told a press conference that the award will be given in 11 categories to businesses and individuals for their contribution to tourism development.
According to Pirgic, 97 applications have been submitted and the names of winners will be announced at tomorrow's celebration.
Pirgic explained that tourism development and the increased foreign currency inflow in Serbia in the past several years have enticed the Serbian government to recognise the importance of tourism for the country's economy, which is why the Serbian Tourism Development Strategy before 2015 was composed.
Director of the Serbian Tourist Organisation (TOS) Miodrag Popovic said that this year's World Tourism Day is being held under the slogan "Tourism Enriches", adding that one of the main motives for foreign tourists to come to Serbia is its cultural and historical heritage.
Popovic said that in the first seven months of 2006, there was a foreign currently influx of $197.110 million, which is 23% higher than in the same period last year.
He specified that the turnover from tourism in this period stands at $28 million adding that it is realistic to expect this figure to reach $400 million by end-2006.
He also recalled that as of January 1, 2007, Serbia will become a full member of the European Travel Commission.
