Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, met today with Director of the Archives of Serbia Miroslav Perišić, PhD, to discuss the functioning and work of this institution, which, as he noted, is one of the most important and oldest cultural institutions in the country.

Macut stressed that this is an institution of national importance, as it preserves archival records, the treasure of the state.
The Prime Minister underlined that this institution has and will always have the full support of the Government of Serbia, with the aim of further improving its work.
Speaking about the importance of the Archives of Serbia, an institution established in 1898, Perišić noted that it serves as the parent institution for 38 archives in Serbia, and that its remit includes the arrangement, microfilming and digitisation of archival materials, as well as publishing and exhibition activities.
He identified the lack of space for storing archival materials as the greatest challenge facing this prestigious institution, adding that the Archives of Serbia is preparing to commence the design of a new storage facility.
