Weather-related situation under control

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, stated today that the situation in the country regarding snowfall and cold snap is under control, emphasising that there are sensitive zones in several places in Serbia, namely in the Loznica region and the Zlatibor administrative district.

In an interview with Radio Television of Serbia, Macut assessed that members of the Emergency Situations Sector are working exceptionally well on the ground, adding that, in addition to members of the Ministry of the Interior, local teams are also engaged in these parts of the country to clear and repair the damage.

He pointed out that the electricity distribution network is particularly affected by the snowfall, and that people from this sector are on the ground, fixing power failures and trying to reach all our citizens as soon as possible.

The Prime Minister also said that the state will seize the potential opportunity to acquire a larger percentage of ownership of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), as this will give it greater control over the company.

Macut emphasised that it is good news that NIS’ licence has been extended, confirming that a new amount of oil will arrive at the Pančevo refinery through the JANAF pipeline in January and that it will return to operation in the second half of January.

According to him, oil reserves in Serbia are fully replenished, which is why citizens should not worry.
