Macut visits Church of Saint Sava, extends Christmas greetings

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, visited the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade today and on that occasion extended greetings for Christmas Eve and Christmas to the clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church and to the faithful, expressing his wish that the year ahead be marked by peace and prosperity.

Macut expressed the hope that this year would be much calmer and more prosperous, and that it would be spent in peace and well-being arising from unity and concord, which must exist and which are a symbol of the Serbian people.

He conveyed his gratitude to the clergy of the Church of Saint Sava for the invitation to visit this holy site and to spend Christmas Eve with them, emphasising that the unity of the Serbian people and the Serbian Orthodox Church has endured for centuries.

Christmas certainly represents the greatest family holiday and one of the symbols of both Serbian identity and the Serbian Orthodox Church, which, as he noted, has been a guiding force for our people through the times we have endured.

The Church of Saint Sava is the largest Serbian Orthodox church, built on the site where Sinan Pasha burned the relics of Saint Sava in 1595. Its construction began in 1935, financed by voluntary contributions, according to the design of architects Bogdan Nestorović and Aleksandar Deroko, and was completed in 2004.
