Athletes best ambassadors of Serbia in world

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, said tonight that the athletes of Serbia have been the country’s best ambassadors for years, instilling a sense of pride and togetherness among citizens, while also conveying worldwide the image of Serbia as a country of success, commitment and fair play.

At the ceremony at which athlete Angelina Topić and wrestler Aleksandr Komarov were declared the most successful athletes of Serbia for 2025 by the Olympic Committee of Serbia, Macut pointed out that this is a value that cannot be measured solely by the number of medals, but is deeply felt in every corner of our country.

He assessed that this is a year of which Serbia has reason to be proud of and in which the athletes once again showed that talent, work, discipline and self-belief can bring results at the highest international level.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the successes achieved by Serbian athletes are the result of systematic, long-term and responsible state support of the state and its institutions for elite sport.

It is this continuity of investment, planning and partnership that has contributed to the constant improvement of Serbia's sports results at the major international competitions. I want to clearly state that institutional support will continue in the coming years, said Macut.

The Prime Minister added that the support will be directed towards the entire system of elite sport in Serbia, from athletes and coaches to federations and professional teams, and pointed out that the Olympic Committee of Serbia has a special place in that system, because as an umbrella sports institution, it represents the support of the state.

The ceremony was also attended by Minister of Sport Zoran Gajić, Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Snežana Paunović and Minister of Environmental Protection Sara Pavkov.
