Parivodic told a press conference that this two year project, worth €3.4 million, will be implemented in six municipalities of south western Serbia – Nova Varos, Novi Pazar, Prijepolje, Priboj, Sjenica and Tutin.
He said that the project will be financed by the EU through the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR), the Swiss government, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Serbian government.
According to Parivodic, the project will be led by a committee comprising representatives of the EAR, the Swiss embassy in Belgrade, the UNDP, the Serbian Ministry of International Economic Relations and the Serbian Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government.
The project will be directed towards establishing institutional and organisational structures for implementing strategies for sustainable development, offering quality services to citizens, designing strategies for sustainable local development, and for creating encouraging conditions for private investment, explained the Minister.
Head of the European Commission's delegation to Belgrade Josep Lloveras said that this project should contribute to economic stability in local communities, and added that social and political stability are preconditions for its realisation.
Head of the European Agency for Reconstruction Mission to Serbia-Montenegro Daniel Giuglaris, Swiss Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Wilhelm Meier and United Nations Development Program Resident Representative in Serbia Lance Clark also participated in the presentation of the project.
