Macut opens Traces of Light: Serbs in the Mirror of the Hermitage exhibition

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, this evening opened the Traces of Light: Serbs in the Mirror of the Hermitage exhibition at the National Museum in Belgrade, a unique display that presents, for the first time in the region, a selection of masterpieces from the collection of the renowned State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg.

Macut noted that this exhibition goes beyond the scope of an artistic event, serving as a testament to the shared history and enduring cultural ties between the Serbian and Russian peoples.

The Prime Minister stressed that the portraits displayed at the National Museum are not only masterpieces of exceptional artistic value, but also carry profound personal and historical narratives that bear witness to the destinies of distinguished individuals whose lives intertwined the two nations.

He underlined the importance of the cultural bridges built through exhibitions of this kind, emphasising that through culture, art and education, we preserve the legacy of our ancestors, while reaffirming respect and integrity as the values that unite us.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Ministry of Culture on the successful implementation of the project and expressed gratitude to the Hermitage experts who made it possible for the artworks to arrive in Belgrade in their full splendour.

The exhibition, organised in cooperation between the National Museum and the Hermitage, presents a selection of remarkable portraits and archival materials that shed light on the role of Serbs in Russian history, as well as on the cultural currents that shaped European civilisation.

Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković also attended the opening.
