At the opening of the Fourth WTO Forum under the slogan “I Choose Fertility”, Macut said that organising such panels and events is of utmost importance for the promotion of this entire movement – that couples who are infertile can learn as much as possible about it and be in contact with people who deal with it.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that such meetings will also contribute to improving the birth rate, which is stagnant in Serbia.
I believe that a good future awaits us, because more and more young people are deciding to become parents. Our task is to direct the entire policy towards certain groups, so that we do not end up in a situation where we are solving the problem when it may no longer be realistic. That is why it is important to discuss these topics at forums like this, the Prime Minister said.
Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women Tatjana Macura pointed out that the IVF Centre is one of the organisational groups of international organisations on the topic of fertility in Serbia, but also in our region.
Macura pointed out that our country has made significant steps in the field of biomedical assisted reproduction and is at the very top of the world health scene when it comes to supporting those people who want to enter the role.
Today, we have an unlimited number of attempts for all those expecting their first child, and these procedures are fully funded from the budget. In addition, freedom of choice is also provided – whether the procedure will be performed in public or private healthcare institutions, she explained.
According to her, the old limit has been raised several times and is currently at a record high compared to most countries in the world, not just Europe.
She pointed out that the limit was last raised from 43 to 45, and added that in 2023 there were about 11,000 procedures fully funded from the budget, while last year there were 13.
