Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, met today with vice-rectors and deans of the faculties of the University of Belgrade to discuss the organisation of classes during the first week of the new 2025/2026 academic year.
Government representatives presented to the deans the Bill on the Budget of the Republic of Serbia for 2026, under which allocations for higher education have been increased to a record RSD 67 billion, as well as the degree of execution of the 2025 budget funds designated for higher education and the schedule of payments to higher education institutions for performing higher education activities by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
The Prime Minister underlined the necessity of maintaining the teaching process in the 2025/2026 academic year, which requires greater engagement by the management of higher education institutions in monitoring the level of teaching implementation across all accredited study programmes, that scientific research, professional and artistic research activities are conducted in support of, and alongside, the core activities of faculties – educational activities, and that the Law on Higher Education clearly stipulates that higher education institutions founded by the Republic of Serbia receive budget funds for implementing accredited study programmes within their core higher education activities.
It was also agreed at the meeting that intensive communication between representatives of higher education institutions and the relevant ministries would continue in the coming period, with the aim of ensuring the smooth conduct of classes at all higher education institutions in the Republic of Serbia, as well as resolving outstanding issues related to their financial operations.
