Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, met today with Premier of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang, as part of his working visit to Shanghai.
Macut expressed gratitude for China’s continued support to Serbia and added that relations between the two countries are based on mutual respect, iron-clad friendship and a vision of joint progress.
During the talks, the two officials expressed dedication to strengthening cooperation in the fields of the economy, infrastructure, science and technology, as well as joint implementation of projects of strategic importance for both countries.
The Prime Minister of Serbia and the Chinese Premier also discussed the existing and new projects, primarily those in the yet underdeveloped fields of cooperation, while also particularly focusing on the wood processing and textile industries.
They agreed that in the coming period, the two countries should continue with determining new projects of mutual benefit.
Macut reiterated Serbia’s support to global initiatives launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as it was already done during the visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to Beijing.
The two officials highlighted the need for China and Serbia to further strengthen their ties on the global level, while the Serbian Prime Minister reiterated Serbia’s support for Chinese initiatives in terms of global governance and artificial intelligence.
The Prime Minister of Serbia and the Chinese Premier underlined the importance of the opening of the Serbian section of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, which is the first and largest project that China is implementing within the framework of the cooperation mechanism with Central and Eastern European countries.
It was emphasised that this project is of key importance for the infrastructure of Serbia and the region, and that it is a project that shows the synergy of the two peoples and how much cooperation between the two states, built on the foundations of excellent relations and good communication between the two presidents, brings concrete benefits to the citizens of Serbia.
Macut conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic of Serbia and reiterated the invitation to the Chinese Premier to visit Belgrade. He also proposed that Serbia host a meeting of China and the countries of Central and Southeastern Europe next year.
Premier Li emphasised that China will continue to support Serbia as a reliable partner, noting that relations between the two countries will develop in the spirit of mutual trust and a shared future.
During his working visit, Macut will visit the China International Import Expo, where he will open the Serbian national pavilion.
The Prime Minister also gave a lecture at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of the most prestigious universities in China.
