Competitions in 46th Guca Brass Band Festival begin

Guca got a wakeup call this morning with the sound of trumpets in the streets announcing the final events of the 46th Guca Brass Band Festival, which lasts until August 30.
Trumpet orchestras from Vladicin Han, Zaguzanje and Donja Grdilica woke up more than 150,000 visitors who spent the night in Guca, and announced the beginning of the competitive part of this largest festival of ethnic music. The finals will be opened tomorrow by Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica.
At 5 pm today there will be a parade of 35 trumpet orchestras from Serbia, six from abroad, four artistic societies from Greece, Herceg Novi, Kumanovo and Boljevac and a male choir from Slovenia, with 1,500 participants, and later competitions in the category of the youngest players will begin.
This evening at 6 pm five children’s and 10 young persons’ orchestras will perform, tomorrow at 3 pm 20 trumpet orchestras will compete at the city stadium for the golden trumpet. It is expected the event will be attended by some half a million spectators.
