Prime Minister continues talks with representatives of state universities

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, met today with the rector, vice-rectors and deans of the faculties of the University of Kragujevac, thereby continuing meetings with representatives of higher education institutions founded by the Republic of Serbia in preparation for the start of the new academic year.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the deans of the faculties within the University of Kragujevac to inform the Prime Minister about the number of students enrolled in accredited study programmes of this university after two enrolment periods and about plans for the start of classes in the new 2025/2026 academic year.

During the talks, all uncertainties that the management of higher education institutions had regarding the method of ranking and enrolment in higher years of study were clarified, as well as the possibilities for extending the duration of studies for students whose maximum allowed study period is expiring.

The meeting was also an opportunity to analyse enrolment policy at higher education institutions in Serbia, with special emphasis on the decline of interest among secondary school graduates in enrolling at faculties educating teaching staff, as well as certain technical and technological faculties, and to exchange ideas for promoting these study programmes.

Prime Minister Macut expressed satisfaction that most faculties of the University of Kragujevac will begin the new academic year as early as 20 October, noting that the number of students applying to take exams in the current examination periods is at the level of previous years, while the pass rate remains satisfactory.

In an open discussion, plans were presented for the further development of the University of Kragujevac, the improvement of spatial capacities, projects for the modernisation of the teaching process and scientific research activities at the faculties.
