46th Brass Band Festival opens in Guca

Serbian Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services Bojan Dimitrijevic opened today the 46th Brass Band Festival in Guca.

On behalf of the Serbian government, under whose auspices the biggest Serbian tourist event is taking place, Dimitrijevic wished success to organisers and invited everyone to come and visit this celebration of folk art and music.
Guca is a symbol of tradition, hospitality and warmth of the people in this area and entire Serbia as well, said Dimitrijevic. He added that the organisation of this year's festival is better than ever because infrastructure has been improved and new stages put up, thanks to the government and the local self-government.
This year, 40 brass bands will compete at the festival and several hundred thousand visitors are expected to arrive by September 3.
The board in charge of the festival announced that trumpet player Boban Markovic, multiple winner at the Guca festival, has been appointed the first ambassador of the festival and will represent it in Serbia and abroad.
Markovic will be officially appointed at the concert he will perform with his brass band on September 1.
Boban Markovic, who has played the trumpet since the age of 7, held his first performance in Guca in 1986 and has won several awards.
Markovic and his band are among the most renowned Serbian musicians in the world and their concerts abroad attract great interest and many visitors.
