Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić stated that cooperation between Serbia and Romania in the field of internal affairs is at a high level, particularly regarding border security, adding that today’s signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Prevention, Containment and Mitigation of the Consequences of Natural Disasters further strengthens this cooperation.

Following a meeting in Belgrade with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Romania Cătălin Marian Predoiu, Dačić expressed satisfaction with the signing of this document, especially considering major climate change and natural disasters, emphasising the necessity of mutual cooperation and support in this regard.
He also noted that cooperation between the two countries’ border police forces is exceptional, as Serbia and Romania jointly address security challenges including irregular migration, drug and weapons trafficking, human trafficking, and the smuggling of medicines containing psychoactive substances.
Predoiu stressed that relations with Serbia are of strategic importance for Romania.
Serbia is a very important neighbour, with which Romania shares economic and friendly ties, he said, emphasising that Romania does not recognise the so-called Kosovo and that this position will remain unchanged.
He further highlighted Serbia’s support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area, noting that there will be no obstacles in implementing the necessary systems and that Serbian citizens will receive full support.
