Investment in traffic safety among government’s key tasks

Macut underlined that the preservation of citizens’ lives and health is a state priority, and that investment in traffic safety is one of the key tasks of the Government of Serbia.
The Prime Minister stressed that the government will continue to support all initiatives aimed at developing a modern and efficient traffic safety system.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, who chaired the inaugural session, explained that the goal is to utilise the capacities of all relevant institutions – the police, local self-governments, schools, healthcare institutions and road enterprises – to act as one system in order to jointly, systematically and in a well-organised manner fight for every life.
Dačić emphasised that traffic safety represents a shared national responsibility and that it is necessary to act preventively rather than wait for a tragedy.
The session placed special focus on preventive activities and on more effective cooperation among all relevant institutions, while also highlighting the importance of drafting a National Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan as the basis for reducing the number of traffic accidents.
