Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said this evening that the Serbian negotiating team had a very organised and convincing approach in the talks on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija, while the delegation from Pristina presented an idyllic picture of the condition in the province, which does not fit reality.
In an interview for the Radio Television of Serbia, Kostunica said that speeches by members of the Serb delegation Marko Jaksic and Goran Bogdanovic showed the harsh reality of Kosovo-Metohija and the difficulties and uncertainties faced by Serbs living in the province at the moment.
He said that the differences between the two sides are more than obvious, and added that the solution offered by Serbia rests on compromise, and is in accordance with international law, democratic standards and implies respect of the rights of ethnic minorities.
Commenting on the insistence of the ethnic-Albanian side on independence as the only option, the Serbian Prime Minister warned that that option can be realised only by violating international law, and that such a solution could only be an imposed one.
Insistence on independence while breaking international law, democratic European standards and rules of the Contact Group, will open the door to instability, stressed Kostunica. He added that today at the negotiations the Kosovo-Albanians voiced a strong wish for independence but failed to present arguments for it.
