Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, met today with new Ambassador of the European Union to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath and wished him successful work during his mandate in Belgrade.
Macut expressed his satisfaction that a diplomat with such extensive experience is taking over the position of Head of the EU Delegation and welcomed his proactive approach from the first day of his mandate and balanced statements on the current situation in Serbia, in particular the condemnation of all types of violence, including attacks on the premises of political parties.
The Prime Minister invited the Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia to participate in a broader social dialogue, as the only way to calm tensions and overcome the current situation.
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for his welcome, Von Beckerath said that the European Union is committed to supporting Serbia on its path to full membership in the Union.
He underlined that EU accession represents a real opportunity for Serbia and in this context announced that he would work closely with all relevant stakeholders to further advance the reform agenda and the implementation of reforms for the benefit of all citizens.
