Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, has strongly condemned the arrest of Igor Popović, Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, by the provisional institutions in Priština.
Macut stressed that this is another in a series of brutal examples of violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms, primarily the right to freedom of movement and expression.
Arresting a man just because he speaks the truth and works in the interests of his people – is a clear message that dialogue and normalisation have no place in Priština’s politics, the Prime Minister said.
He called for the immediate and unconditional release of Igor Popović, assessing that his arrest is completely unfounded and politically motivated.
Serbia will not give up on protecting its people in Kosovo and Metohija. We will continue to advocate for peace, but also for justice and the dignity of every one of our people, Macut stressed.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the arrest of Igor Popović is not only an attack on one person, but also on the values shared by all those who believe in dialogue, truth and freedom.
