Speaking at a press conference, Naumov said that it is expected that this jubilee celebration will be attended by numerous scientists and statesmen from all over the world, as well as several representatives of political, social, cultural, religious, scientific and business institutions from Serbia and abroad.
The Minister said that it is planned that on July 9 representatives of the Serbian government together with guests visit the Nikola Tesla Museum, while at 4 pm an exhibition titled “150 years of Nikola Tesla will open in Belgrade City Hall.
According to Naumov, on the same day from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm the premier of the opera “Violet Fire” will be held at the National Theatre in Belgrade. On July 10, the day of the birth of the celebrated scientist, at 3 pm, a monument to Tesla will be unveiled at the Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport in the presence of guests. The monument is the work of sculptor Drinka Radovanovic.
He said that Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica will host a reception at the Federation Palace on July 10 at 6 pm, for senior functionaries, following which at 8 pm a solemn academy will be held at the Sava Centre.
On July 11 at 9.30 pm a presentation of special coins and postal stamps will be held at the National Bank of Serbia which will afterwards be put into general use. At 9 pm a performance titled “Violin Octet, Cello, String Quartet, Two Computers and Tesla’s coil” will take place, said the Minister and added that at Kalamegdan at 10 pm, a musical spectacle “Following Tesla’s Thoughts” will be held.
Naumov said that besides these, a number of other events will be held. On July 9 in the Trg Republike Square the theatre Pinocchio will present a puppet show “A Fairy Tale of Electricity”. At the same place on July 10 and 11, from 10 am to 9 pm a forum “Radio Light Cluster” will be open.
In Novi Sad, at the Matica Srpska Gallery on July 11 at 12 noon a promotion of the book “Tesla’s Correspondence” will be held, said Naumov, and stressed that the 150th birth anniversary of Tesla will be observed in a befitting manner in the United Nations and the Council of Europe.
Serbian Minister of Science and Environmental Protection Aleksadar Popovic said that the celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Tesla in Belgrade will be attended by EU commissioners for environment and science and research Stavros Dimas and Janez Potocnik respectively. He added that this clearly shows how much Europe honours the great scientist.
Popovic said that in September a scientific gathering will be held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
